LIBF is Now Walbrook Institute London: What CeMAP Candidates Need to Know

LIBF changed its name to Walbrook Institute London in April 2025. Here's what that means for your CeMAP registration, your certificate, your exams and your CV, and what hasn't changed at all.

If you've opened your CeMAP materials recently and seen an unfamiliar name, you haven't registered with the wrong organisation. The LIBF Walbrook rebrand happened on 2 April 2025, when the body that awards CeMAP publicly announced its new name: Walbrook Institute London (formerly LIBF). For CeMAP candidates, very little has actually changed.

We get asked about it constantly, usually by students worried that their qualification has been quietly replaced. In our experience training 5,000+ students, a name change like this causes far more stress than it deserves. Below is everything that changed, everything that didn't, and the few small things worth doing about it.

The short answer

Nothing about CeMAP has been cancelled, replaced or downgraded. Walbrook Institute London is the same institution that awards CeMAP, now under a new name, and it still runs its professional qualifications under the LIBF brand. Your registration, your study time and any units you've already passed carry on exactly as before.

What the LIBF Walbrook rebrand actually changed

The rebrand changed the name of the institution and its main website. It did not change the qualification, the exams or the regulator's view of CeMAP.

Walbrook announced the new name on 2 April 2025. In its official announcement, it explains that it had grown well beyond traditional banking and finance qualifications, and that its teaching now reaches into business, technology and digital subjects. A name built around "banking and finance" no longer described everything it does. The new name comes from the Walbrook River, which gives the institution a London identity without tying it to one subject.

The visible effect for most students is the website. Typing libf.ac.uk now takes you to walbrook.ac.uk. That redirect works for the home page, but some older deep links don't survive the move. When we tested the old LIBF CeMAP page address, it ended on an error page rather than the current CeMAP page. If you bookmarked fee or syllabus pages before 2025, replace those bookmarks with the current Walbrook CeMAP page.

That covers the change itself. The next question, and the one we hear most, is who actually awards your qualification now.

Is LIBF still the awarding body for CeMAP?

Yes, in practice. Walbrook kept LIBF as the brand for its professional qualifications and membership, and describes it as LIBF, part of Walbrook. CeMAP is one of those professional qualifications, which is why its official page sits under the /libf/ section of the Walbrook website.

So the awarding body is Walbrook Institute London, and the qualification carries the LIBF brand. They aren't two separate organisations competing for your registration. Walbrook's CeMAP page is clear that you still register for CeMAP and complete it through Walbrook as the awarding body, even if you study with an independent provider. We cover how that relationship works in more detail in our post on who awards your CeMAP qualification.

i
Why you'll see both names

Walbrook Institute London is the institution. LIBF is the brand its finance professional qualifications and membership still use. Seeing "LIBF" on a CeMAP study text and "Walbrook" on an invoice is normal, and both are genuine.

Has the CeMAP qualification changed?

Not because of the rebrand. CeMAP is still the Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice. Walbrook lists it as three modules covering five compulsory units: FRE1 and FRE2 (Financial Services, Regulation and Ethics), MRT1 and MRT2 (the mortgages units), and a final unit that assesses your mortgage advice knowledge.

Its standing hasn't moved either. CeMAP is registered with Ofqual on the Regulated Qualifications Framework, and Walbrook states that it meets the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) examination standards for mortgage advice. Employers who asked for CeMAP before April 2025 still ask for exactly the same thing.

One thing does confuse students, though. The rename and the CeMAP specification update are two separate events. The specification was updated in September 2025, which is when the FRE and MRT unit structure came in. The rename happened months earlier and didn't touch the syllabus at all. If you're trying to work out which units you need, our breakdown of the current CeMAP exam structure walks through each one.

The practical exam experience is the same whichever name is on the website. Walbrook's CeMAP page says you can sit exams at any time, with no booking required and remote invigilation. You get 18 months to complete the qualification when you register for all modules together.

Is your CeMAP certificate still valid?

Yes. Walbrook says that anyone holding a qualification from LIBF, or from any of its previous names, keeps a qualification that is fully recognised by employers, professional bodies and universities. Your certificate, transcripts and academic records all remain valid. You don't need to request a new certificate or "convert" your old one.

The most common worry we see is from advisers who qualified years ago and assume they now have to update something. You don't. A CeMAP awarded years ago, under the LIBF name or an earlier one, is exactly as valid today as one awarded last month.

New certificates are less of a mystery than people expect. Walbrook says future students on its finance-related professional qualifications will continue to see the LIBF name on their certificates. Walbrook doesn't name CeMAP specifically in that statement, but CeMAP is one of those qualifications, so a CeMAP certificate issued now should carry LIBF branding as part of Walbrook.

Membership works the same way. Walbrook's CeMAP page says CeMAP holders become Members of LIBF, with the designatory letters MLIBF.

A new name on the building doesn't change the qualification on your wall. CeMAP is still CeMAP, and employers still know exactly what it means. Jay Lee, uAcademy

What the rebrand means if you're studying CeMAP now

If you're mid-way through CeMAP, the rebrand asks almost nothing of you. Nothing on Walbrook's site asks existing candidates to re-register or resit because of the name change, and your 18-month window keeps running as normal.

A few day-to-day details are worth knowing:

  • Student portal: Walbrook's CeMAP page still refers to the MyLIBF student portal, and the login link on the Walbrook site still points to it. Log in the same way you always have.
  • Contact details: At the time of writing, the CeMAP customer services email on Walbrook's site still uses a libf.ac.uk address. Emails from either domain can be genuine.
  • Exams: You still sit them through Walbrook, at a time that suits you, with remote invigilation and no booking slot to chase.
  • Fees: Walbrook sets and collects these. They are separate from whatever you pay a training provider.

These are Walbrook's published fees as of November 2026:

What you register forWalbrook fee
Whole qualification, registered in one go (includes study materials and exam entry)£735
FSRE units only (FRE1 and FRE2)£330
Mortgages units only (MRT1 and MRT2)£320
Resit£120 per unit

Fees change from time to time, so check the Walbrook CeMAP page before you pay. If you're planning your timeline around the rebrand, our guide to how long it takes to get CeMAP qualified is a better guide to your diary than any name change.

!
Be careful with payment emails

Name changes are a gift to scammers, because students expect unfamiliar branding. If an email asks you to pay an exam or resit fee, don't click the link. Go to walbrook.ac.uk yourself and log in from there.

How to write CeMAP on your CV after the rebrand

Lead with the qualification, not the awarding body. Recruiters and hiring managers search CVs for "CeMAP". What our students tell us is that interviewers ask about the qualification and the units they passed, not about the awarding body's name.

A clear format that works for anyone, whenever they qualified:

  • CeMAP (Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice), LIBF, part of Walbrook Institute London, 2026
  • Keep the year you actually qualified. If that was before April 2025, there's no need to change anything else.
  • If you're still studying, list the units you've passed, for example "CeMAP: FRE1 and FRE2 passed, MRT1 and MRT2 in progress".
  • Members can add MLIBF after their name.

LinkedIn needs one small update. Walbrook has said its LIBF LinkedIn account is closing, so if your qualification entry links to the old LIBF page, switch it to Walbrook's page so the logo and link keep working.

Say it once in interviews

If an interviewer hasn't heard of Walbrook, one sentence covers it: "Walbrook Institute London is LIBF's new name, and CeMAP is unchanged." Most mortgage recruiters will already know.

Walbrook Institute of Finance and other name mix-ups

The new name is short, and people still get it wrong. These are the mix-ups we see most often.

"Walbrook Institute of Finance." This name doesn't exist. Walbrook's own site never uses it. The correct name is Walbrook Institute London, or simply Walbrook. Using the wrong one on a job application won't sink you, but it does look careless in an industry that rewards attention to detail.

CeMAP versus the CeMAP Diploma. Walbrook also lists a CeMAP Diploma at Level 4. It's a separate, higher qualification. If you need the standard qualification to start advising, make sure you're registering for CeMAP itself.

"Is Walbrook a university?" Walbrook isn't called a university, but it does hold Taught Degree Awarding Powers, which it first gained in 2023 under the LIBF name. None of that affects CeMAP, which is a professional qualification rather than a degree.

"Does my training provider award CeMAP?" No. Providers like uAcademy prepare you for the exams. Walbrook sets the exams, registers you and issues the qualification.

A quick checklist for CeMAP candidates

If you only do six things about the rebrand, do these:

  1. Bookmark the current Walbrook "formerly LIBF" page and the Walbrook CeMAP page, and delete old libf.ac.uk bookmarks.
  2. Keep your existing certificate. It doesn't need reissuing.
  3. Log in to MyLIBF as normal for exams and results.
  4. Update your CV to read "LIBF, part of Walbrook Institute London".
  5. Check fees on Walbrook's page before you register or resit.
  6. Know the pass mark you're aiming for. Our guide to the CeMAP pass mark explains how it works.

Everything else, from your study plan to your exam technique, stays exactly as it was before April 2025.

Frequently asked questions

Is LIBF the same as Walbrook Institute London?

Yes. Walbrook Institute London is the new name of the institution formerly known as LIBF, announced on 2 April 2025. Walbrook still uses the LIBF brand for its professional qualifications and membership, so you will see both names on CeMAP materials.

Is my CeMAP still valid after the LIBF name change?

Yes. Walbrook says qualifications awarded under the LIBF name remain fully recognised by employers, professional bodies and universities. Your certificate and academic records stay valid, and you do not need to apply for a replacement.

Will my CeMAP certificate say LIBF or Walbrook?

Walbrook says students taking its finance-related professional qualifications will continue to see the LIBF name on their certificates. CeMAP is one of those qualifications, so expect LIBF branding as part of Walbrook rather than a certificate that only says Walbrook.

Do I need to re-register or resit anything because of the rebrand?

No. The name change did not cancel registrations or passed units, and nothing on Walbrook's site asks CeMAP candidates to start again. You only resit a unit if you fail it, at £120 per unit.

Is it called Walbrook Institute of Finance?

No. The correct name is Walbrook Institute London, shortened to Walbrook. "Walbrook Institute of Finance" is a common mix-up and does not appear anywhere on Walbrook's own website.

Who awards CeMAP now?

CeMAP is awarded by Walbrook Institute London, formerly LIBF, under its LIBF professional qualifications brand. Training providers such as uAcademy prepare you for the exams, but you register for CeMAP with Walbrook and it issues the qualification.
