Life in the UK Test Review: a uAcademy Student’s Experience

Hi, I’m Maria, originally from the Philippines. I’ve been living in the UK for almost five years now and recently took the Life in the UK test as part of my journey towards getting Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR). I used uAcademy’s course and practice tests to prepare, and here’s my experience.

Preparation Journey

I started preparing about a month before the test. My study plan involved reading through uAcademy’s course material and taking practice tests during lunch breaks at work. My British colleagues found it amusing and even tried their luck with the practice tests – most of them failed, which was quite reassuring for me! I made sure to review historical dates and events thoroughly, as that was my weakest area.

Booking the Test

Booking the test was straightforward. I went online, filled out the necessary details, and paid the £50 fee. A crucial tip: make sure all your personal information matches your identification documents exactly to avoid any issues on test day.

The Day Before the Test

The day before the test, I did a quick review of key topics and made sure I had all necessary documents ready. I was pretty nervous, so I tried to relax and get a good night’s sleep.

Test Day Experience

On test day, I arrived at the test centre 30 minutes early. The check-in process was thorough – I had to turn off my phone, stow my belongings in a locker, and even go through a metal detector. It felt a bit like airport security!

After the initial checks, I was led to the test room. The setup included a brief practice test to familiarize myself with the software. The actual test consisted of 24 questions, and I had 45 minutes to complete it.

Taking the Test

The questions were a mix of everything I had studied. Some were straightforward, but a few were tricky. For example, there was a question about a historical event that I had to think hard about. The practice tests from uAcademy really paid off because I felt well-prepared for the format and content.

After the Test

Once I finished, I raised my hand to signal the invigilator. They confirmed that my results would be emailed to me shortly. I waited in the reception area, nervously recalling the questions I had found challenging. Within ten minutes, I received the email – I passed!

Thanks uAcademy!

Passing the Life in the UK test was a huge relief. The uAcademy course and practice tests were invaluable in my preparation. To anyone preparing for the test, I highly recommend using these resources. Good luck!
